Steel Valley Middle School
Last spring, SVMS student government officers selected Socktober as its first service event of this school year. Socktober was created by Kid President creator Brad Montague as a way to get socks and other necessities to the homeless community. Every night in the United States, an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets. This October, we want the SV community to prove that even a small act of love, such as donating a pair of NEW socks, can make big difference in the lives of our neighbors who are homeless.
All proceeds will be donated to Pittsburgh Mercy Health Center where a SV alumnus works regularly with the homeless community. He knows best how to use and distribute our donations. A table will be set up during morning arrival near the breezeway in the middle school. Students and staff can make daily donations during the first two weeks of October, and all sizes, colors, and styles are appreciated. If other district staff in other buildings would like to donate, I will be happy to pick up donations at each building in a few weeks.
Thank you for your support!
