Steel Valley, located 7 miles and 10 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, takes pride in being a forward-looking education institution that provides the essentials necessary to guarantee a quality education program for all its students.
The Boroughs of Munhall, Homestead, and West Homestead comprise the school system that the State of Pennsylvania mandated be merged in 1971. The District combines the comforts and serenity of suburban living with the easy accessibility to the cultural and health centers of Oakland and Pittsburgh.
Steel Valley serves people in the three communities that cover 3.78 square miles, and houses 1846 students in the four buildings of the School District.
The social and economic mix of the school community provides a healthy basis of academic and extra-curricular interaction.
Report cards are distributed every nine weeks and Interim Progress reports are sent to parents half way through the report period. Parent-teacher conferences are regularly scheduled; however, parents are encouraged to meet with teachers whenever necessary.
The Steel Valley School District is organized Grades K-4 in two elementary schools: Park Elementary School located in Munhall and Barrett Elementary School, located in Homestead. Grades 5-8 are are housed in the Middle School and Grades 9-12 in the Senior High School.
The goal of the Steel Valley School District is to provide the best in educational opportunities to its students. Each year the Steel Valley Board of School Directors and the Central Administrative Staff review the educational programs and responsibly respond to fiscal demands. Maintaining cost-effective quality educational programs is one of the School District’s major concerns.
Pupils are challenged with opportunities to expand their talents to the utmost. National test results reflect current levels of achievement of Steel Valley Students and identify those in need of remediation. Students annually receive an array of awards, scholarships and other competitive honors.
The staff participates in activities designed to keep them informed and updated regularly in all aspects of education. Administrators, teachers and support personnel are carefully chosen. The School District seeks only the most capable professional personnel to ensure an outstanding school program.
